WorkSafes Expectation
As part of their obligations under the Plant Regulations, crane owners are required to undertake a preventative maintenance program to the standard outlined in the relevant parts of AS 2550, which includes consideration of the manufacturers recommendations.
Worksafe Guide Notice - Major Inspection of Cranes 27 Jan 07
The Crane Industry Council of Australia has initiated a crane assessment program throughout Australia, now mandatory under Australian Standard (AS) 2550.1-2011 Cranes, hoists and winches - Safe use - General requirements. Developed in consultation with the crane industry as a whole, the program aims to augment existing safety standards with annual assessments of mobile plant equipment now being made by CraneSafe.
The assessment program provides crane, and all mobile plant, owners and operators with a process for a common third party assessment of safety aspects of their equipment and a single standardised method by which operators, owners, manufacturers, suppliers, designers and importers may fulfill their relevant duty of care obligations under the State Occupational Health and Safety Acts (OH&S).
The benefits to you as a customer are:
Mobile Plant Safety Services is endorsed by Crane Safe to inspect all current crane types including:
Mobile Plant Safety Services are now Australian Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (AINDT) certified and can therefore now provide an on site crack testing service to go hand in hand with your Crane Safe inspection. NDT is required when the equipment is undergoing a 10 year or 25 year major inspection, annually on a mobile crane that is five years or older, or on any components where their serviceability maybe suspect.
Utlising Mobile Plant Safety Services for both your inspection and NDT requirements will simplify the inspection service for you by limiting the number of contractors required, the equipment downtime and therefore associated costs.
NDT Defintion
Development and application of technical methods to examine materials or components in ways that do not impair their future usefulness and serviceability, in order to detect, locate, measure and evaluate flaws, to assess integrity, properties and composition, and to measure geometrical characteristics.
